Description

The Port of Salaverry project, in Trujillo, Peru, covered the supply of steel structures for the roofing and cladding of a port complex comprising industrial warehouses, with a total area of approximately 52,272 m². The project included warehouses for soybeans, fertilizers, and mineral concentrate, as well as complementary structures for a tire-washing area and a compressor room. Completed in 2021, the project totaled 863 metric tons of steel, fabricated by Net Steel and delivered for erection in Peru.

Challenges

The Port of Salaverry project presented technical, logistical, and operational challenges from the outset. The region’s seismic activity required structural analysis using the finite element method, while the distance between Brazil and Peru called for international logistics, with fabrication sized to fit container shipping. The COVID-19 pandemic further complicated this scenario, bringing border closures and unpredictable freight lead times. The project also demanded robust anti-corrosion protection, given the aggressive environmental conditions of the region, and rigorous quality and shipping control, essential for a remote site with limited infrastructure. Even so, fabrication, delivery, and erection were completed on schedule, meeting the project’s quality, safety, and performance requirements.
